Urban Legend 1: The Drip

Ladies and Gentlemen and everyone else, here at the Circus of the Freaky Urban Legends are the staple diet for the demons that dwell in the darkness. Everyone loves to hear them, even if they may not be totally true, they still have the power to send shivers up the spines of listeners, especially on a cold, stormy night. Every legend has a beginning.

So, grab your safety blanket as we kick off with the very first Circus Of The Freaky Urban Legend. Below are three well known modern Legends, each of which share two things in common; an old lady and a dog. Nothing creepy about that, I hear you squeal.

The first one is an Urban Legend I like to call "The Old Woman and the Dripping Dog"

This story centers around an elderly female widow. Her husband had died not too long ago and she had no children to look after her. Luckily, she did have one very-close and loyal companion; her pet Labrador. These two were as close as you can imagine, for without the other's presence they would surely live a lonely life until their inevitable death. Now, one night (let's say a cold, stormy night!), the old woman had finished locking up her house, meticulously making sure each door in the house was shut and locked as she usually would do, for a lonely elderly woman is an easy target. As per usual, the woman made her way up to her bedroom, turned of the light and laid in her bed. And as always her dog followed behind and slept underneath the bed. Normal. Status Quo....but not for long.

In the early hours of the morning, the old lady was awoken by a sound. A loud sound of something dripping. She was certain that she had turned the taps off after she used the bathroom. Paralysed with fear, the lady was unable to get out of bed and investigate the noise. Instead, she turned over and attempted to ignore it and fall back asleep. Her hand flopped over the side of the bed, to which she was reassuringly licked by her dog.

An hour or so passed and again the dripping woke her up. Getting rather pissed off with the constant dripping she decided to investigate. Again her hand is licked and she steps out of bed. Leaving the bedroom light off she makes her way out of the room and into the bathroom. The noise of the dripping becomes louder and louder as she steps closer and closer.

When she pushes the bathroom door open and flicks the light on, horror sweeps over her weak body. A sight of pure terror lays before her. Hanging from the shower hose is her dog's decapitated body. It's blood dripping out of it's neck as it splashes into the crimson stained tub. Laying next to the plughole is the dog's severed and gruesome head. Shocked, the old lady falls backwards against the bathroom's mirror. She stares in disbelief for there's a message on this mirror. A message that's written in the blood of her beloved pet. The message reads "Aren't you glad you didn't turn your bedroom light on, my dear?"
